Background:
The Sigler Commercial Division in El Paso Texas took on the challenge to assist in the design, layout and component selection of a 1000 Ton Packaged Central Plant used to heat and cool the new K-8 Combo School in El Paso. The owner’s LEED Gold goal underlined the importance of the most efficient, flexible and serviceable Packaged Chiller/Boiler plant available.
Using Carrier’s Foxfire Tri-rotor Variable Speed compressor 23XRV chillers (two; 500 Ton each) in series counter-flow, the team was able to deliver just what the Engineer and Owner were looking for; the most efficient and reliable chiller plant possible!
The bar was set high, operating an entire plant (pumps, chillers, towers, VFDs etc.) at or as close to the ASHRAE 90.1 – 2010 Chiller minimum efficiency requirements of .639kW/Ton.
The team successfully executed the task and achieved the results below. During witness performance testing of the plant these levels were exceeded by as much as 25% from specified.
